DEPOT - KUNST UND DISKUSSION

DEPOT - KUNST UND DISKUSSION

WIENWOCHE 2022 Festival offers a discursive program intending to bring in a variety of subtopics, connected to the general theme of ‘Working Class Ecologies’. We would like to start the discussion on the urgent issue of invisible, affective, and reproductive labor. In this session, we will reflect on similar struggles in different geographies that deal with many different aspects of the global economy of care. A similar event focuses on how women* unite and build organizations for solidarity. The panel will involve diverse positions such as an unionist of essential workers, a curator, a labor expert, and a lawyer. In another round, we would like to introduce the artists to the discussion. Cultural professionals are part of a new social class, named the ‘precariat’. In cooperation with IG Bildende Kunst, we would like to reveal the bureaucratic restrictions and challenges of being a self-employed artist from a so- called ‘third-country’ in Austria. Ecology, which is the other key subject of the festival theme will be discussed in the second day of the series and the speakers will analyse intrusion, extraction, expulsion, and migration from the non-human perspective. In collaboration with the Kunstentropie, another event will be held on the avant- garde movement of ‘Art Brut’, the so-called marginal art of the disabled, mentally ill, and children. A transdisciplinary panel, organised by the “How Many Layers?” project participants will concentrate on the transformation from linear to circular models of production. Lastly, we will present a round-table with former and current directors of WIENWOCHE in order to discuss the challenges and the strategies for the future of the festival.
