The two-part multimedia performance WAGNIS المجازفة  by the collective Iraqui Autumn poses in this year’s festival opening questions about individual privileges, unjust distribution and abuse of power. The privilege of personal freedom will be confronted with the abuse of power on economic, political and cultural layers.

Consumerism as a goal worth striving for, versus global destruction. Exploitation as day to day normality in favor of an elite on top. A language as new acquired privilege overcomes tools of marginalization.

Iraqi Autumn acts on the intersections of art and activism and deals with questions of collective and personal identity in the context of migration and asylum seeking, as well as transnational biographies. The central topic of its work is the public space as a space of negotiation for fights made invisible by the media. How do we reconquer public space? How do we create discourse? How are privileges defined? Are they universal? When do we become privileged and when are privileges a reason to flee?

The experience of self by the protagonists and the examination of one’s own identity is hereby to be understood as an invitation to the audience, to engage in one’s own (lack of) freedom. A search for individual habitat.
