Body Invaders is an interactive performance by Alessandra Plaza and Anisha Müller that brings together feminist video gaming, body politics and live music.
The 8-Bit video game ‘Body Invaders’ is a reinterpretation of the shooter game ‘Space Invaders’ – but this time, instead of aliens, you would fight the oppressive institutions. The game was originally developed by Alessandra in Peru in response to the constant denial of reproductive rights, and to expose Christianity, the state, the legal system and the media as fundamentally patriarchal structures.
In this installation the visitors can play a femme character, combating the patriarchal enemies, or engage with the herstory of ‘Body Invaders’ and other feminist video games in the exhibition corner.
Engaging in the critique of power structures through the video game, who invites the visitors of Wienwoche to actively consider their role in these systems. Ultimately, it is a new way to experience gaming, where the critique of Power and Privilege together with music empower us to regain agency over our own bodies.
