(De)Liberation

(De)Liberation discusses the realities of life for people of African descent and their participation in Austrian society. The performance (De)Liberation will not be broadcast at the ORFRadioKulturhaus tells of the self-organised struggle against racism and (neo)-colonial suppression.

At The (De)Liberation will not be broadcast, "News from the Parallel Worlds" goes on air. The performance consciously breaks with the usual discussion formats in order to make visible the reality of the struggles of black people for freedom against racist suppression and (neo)-colonialism.

In the process, the resistance positions of Black activists from past and present are interlinked and portrayed in a multimedia presentation. At the same time, global perspectives – from Africa and her diaspora in Austria, Germany, the USA, as well as other parts of the world – also come to the fore. Gil Scott-Heron, Josephine Soliman, Fela Kuti, Assata Shakur, Kwame Nkrumah, May Ayim, Ishraga Mustafa Hamid, Grace M. Latigo, Njideka Iroh, Item 7 and Topoke, among others, are to be seen and heard.

The aim of the project (De)Liberation is a Black positioning which examines the dominant social, political and cultural relationships in a self-determined way – beyond traditional moral anti-racism, which understands racism only as a "fringe phenomenon" and negates the self-representation of those who are racially discriminated against.

For this purpose, internal theoretical and practical workshops for the Afro-Austrian/Black community are being held in the run-up to WIENWOCHE.
