refugee.tv’s Good-News-Studio

‘Only bad news is good news!’ In Europe, this cynical mainstream media mantra particularly applies to reporting on refugees. Chaos and conflicts are always at the focus, as well as anything that goes wrong. With refugee.tv’s Good News Studio we change this perspective into its opposite. While others lapse into war rhetoric and talk about fences, fortresses, ceilings and a state of emergency, refugee.tv invites all Viennese to the Good News Studio. Here, the rhetoric of friendship and solidarity is cultivated.

refugee.tv represents an act of self-empowerment: approximately a dozen film and media creators who – partly because of their work – have had to flee to Europe from Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria, Somalia, Palestine and Iraq, construct their own television reports in collaboration with a German-Austrian film collective.

In the editorial laboratory we allow the viewer to participate in refugee.tv: we talk about things that would otherwise remain ‘off the record’, share our knowledge about cameras, microphones, moderation and editing programmes, as well as skyping with friends on other continents. We celebrate new TV platforms and will have a party in the evening. An editorial department with its doors wide open. GOOD NEWS IS WELCOME!
